Cell Dog Program

A REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR SHELTER DOGS AND INMATES

Dogs participating in the Cell Dog program are selected from the Pocatello Animal Shelter. Once selected, the dogs are housed at the Pocatello Woman's Correctional Center where they spend 24-7 with their inmate handler. During their stay they receive exercise, socialization and training each day.
The dogs are taught basic commands such as sit, stay, heel, come, down and stay.

In addition to basic commands, they are also taught fun tricks such as fetch, roll over, crawl, hide & seek and play dead. The basic commands and fun tricks help the dogs build a stronger bond with their adoptive family. Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter are happy to pay for food, treats and other care necessary for the success of our cell dogs in training

Upon completion of the program, the dogs are ready to pass a Good Canine Citizen test. The adoption fee for a Cell Dog is $200.00 plus tax. The adoption fee not only includes all the training listed above but the spay or neuter, 1st year vaccinations a new collar and a microchip.
